The Serbian Orthodox Church
One Church, Many Traditions:
The Orthodox Communion
The Orthodox Church is the ancient, unbroken Church established by Christ and His Apostles, preserving the fullness of the Christian faith through the Holy Scriptures, the Seven Ecumenical Councils, and the uninterrupted life of prayer and sacrament. She is one Church expressed in many local traditions: Greek, Russian, Antiochian, Serbian, and others, each in full communion with one another, sharing the same faith, the same Liturgy, and the same Holy Mysteries.
The Serbian Orthodox Church is one of these autocephalous, or self-governing, members of the Orthodox communion. It was established in 1219 under Saint Sava, Serbia's great monastic bishop and patron, and elevated to a Patriarchate in the 14th century. The current Patriarch is His Holiness Porfirije.
In 1909, Serbian faithful in the Greater Cleveland area came together to establish a parish community, gathering to pray, worship, and preserve the faith far from their homeland. That community has grown and endured for over a century, and today is home to Saint Sava Cathedral in Parma, Ohio. We serve Orthodox Christians in Parma, Cleveland, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills, Brooklyn, and communities across Northeast Ohio. All are welcome to join us for Divine Liturgy on Sundays at 10:00 AM.
